Arsenal 125 Year Anniversary Shirt. 1886-2011 Arsenal Football Club were founded in 1886 as a workers' team from Woolwich, South East London. They turned professional in 1891 and joined the Football League two years later. They were promoted to the First Division in 1904 but financial problems meant they were close to bankruptcy by 1910. They were bought out by Sir Henry Norris that year and to improve the club's financial standing, he moved the team to Arsenal Stadium, Highbury, North London in 1913. After World War I he arranged for the club's promotion back to the First Division, in controversial circumstances. This commemorative shirt carries a unique gold embroidery. Arsenal 1927 FA Cup Final Retro Football Shirt
Arsenal lost the 1927 FA Cup final to Cardiff City 1-0. The final is most remembered for Arsenal Goalkeeper Dan Lewis's mistake which led to the only goal of the game. This was the first ever Cup Final to be broadcast by BBC Radio. The commentators on the day were Derek McCulloch and George Allison, who later went on to manage Arsenal. This Cup Final was the first where both teams entered the pitch side by side, which was in honour of Herbert Chapman, the then Arsenal Manager, who had earlier managed Huddersfield in the 1920's.
